For us, it all started with a simple question. Back in 1982, we were just two young navy service members trying to find a rental we could afford. During our search a Realtor asked Shirley and me, “Why do you want to rent? We had no idea that home ownership was possible but she helped us to purchase our first home. That started us on a road that eventually led to us helping other people buy and sell their homes or investment properties. That house is our actual first house.
Our intimate knowledge of all aspects of real estate allow us to really work with you, helping you feel safe and in control of every step along the way.
Shirley and Ken are both veterans of the USN. Shirley served for 6 years and was one of the first women assigned to a US Navy ship, the USS Hector. Ken served for 8 years and was stationed on 2 different guided missile cruisers. Ken also comes from a family of Navy men, including his Dad who retired after 22 years, and his brother who served as a pilot for 8 years.
Shirley and I met on a second chance situation when I got stationed in Whidbey Island to work on Flight Simulators in 1980. Shirley was active duty in the Navy and worked in the office where new people checked in. We had worked before in San Diego, but only worked together. This time was different, Shirley actually was on duty the night I checked in and we wound up dating for a year, and then got married on Valentine’s day 1982.
We have lived in a lot of places before we were fortunate enough to be able to settle down in paradise. We love meeting new people and sharing in their lives.
With Ken’s background in the Navy working on computers, he used to write custom software all the time. In 1995, Ken was approached by Greg Friedman, one of the most respected financial planners to write some software. Ken and Greg began a relationship that is strong even to this day. Together they built a software company that is still in thriving today and serves a large percent of the Financial Planning industry while employing 60+ people.
After 20 years in the software industry, Ken felt it was time for a change and with he love and talent for real estate, that seemed like a natural fit. Coming from an industry that survives by delivering quality customer service, Ken and Shirley are intimately familiar with what quality service is, and they deliver it daily!
Ken grew up close to the equator spending his childhood overseas as a navy brat. Shirley grew up in Chicago. When Ken’s ship did a fleet week in Fort Lauderdale in 1985, he walked all around the town. He settled under a bridge over a canal, and wrote a letter to Shirley telling her he found where they are going to live. They like to joke that they got here as quickly as they could but it actually was a 12 year journey. After 18 years they cannot think of another place they would like to live.
